The Skeleton Coast is a stretch of coastline on the Atlantic Ocean in the northern part of Namibia, in southwestern Africa. It extends from the Kunene River in the north to the Ugab River in the south, covering a distance of approximately 500 kilometers (310 miles). The area is known for its harsh and barren landscape, with towering sand dunes, rocky outcrops, and shipwrecks littering the shore.
For you the adventurer, the name “Skeleton Coast” comes from the large number of whale and seal bones that can be found on the beaches, remnants of the whaling industry that once flourished in the area. The coastline is also known for its treacherous waters and thick fog, which have caused numerous shipwrecks over the years.
Despite its inhospitable conditions, the Skeleton Coast is home to a variety of wildlife, including desert-adapted elephants, lions, hyenas, and giraffes. A drive in a well suited 4×4 in this terrain is a definite recommendation from us !
The area is also popular among adventure seekers and tourists who are drawn to its rugged beauty and unique wildlife. Get your adventure cap ready !!
